League Cycling Instructors are ambassadors for better biking through education. After earning certification through a 3-day, League Coach-led seminar, LCIs teach Smart Cycling classes to children as well as adults. Their goal is to help people feel more secure about getting on a bike, to create a mindset that bikes are treated as a vehicle, and to ensure that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work with the League of American Bicyclists on restructuring the LCI seminar during the COVID-19 pandemic. The League’s objectives of the seminar remain the same — to certify qualified candidates as League Cycling Instructors to teach the Smart Cycling curriculum. The League is now also concentrated on reducing risks of COVID-19 for League Cycling Coach and LCI candidates.

Therefore, most of the seminar content has been moved to an online format. Georgia Bikes will be the host for the virtual LCI Seminar this fall with the same dates as the previous seminar in Macon. We will partner with Bike Walk Macon for an in-person LCI Seminar in middle Georgia in 2021.

If you are planning on signing up for the virtual LCI seminar, please contact Georgia Bikes first!  Email info@georgiabikes.org or call 706-740-2453.

LCI SEMINAR PREREQUISITES

LCI Candidates are still expected to meet the existing prerequisites of successfully passing the Smart Cycling Complete Class at least 3 weeks prior to the seminar. Candidates can use bikeed.org to fulfill the classroom portion. The on-bike portion must be completed with a local LCI. Social distancing recommendations for LCIs to teach on-bike, in-person classes have recently been released by the League.

FORMAT

The LCI Seminar will be conducted virtually for the scheduled seminars remaining in 2020. Some video recording will be required of the candidates, i.e. bike handling drills and night time riding. Participants will need to have access to a computer or tablet with internet access as well as a video recording device (phone, table, or similar). Georgia Bikes can assist with recordings if a candidate does not have a video recording device.

The Coach will set up Zoom login information for the LCI seminar and email the information to candidates. The Site Facilitator (Georgia Bikes + local advocates hosting small groups of LCI candidates) will be cc’d. The Coach will be the host of the 3-day series of meetings.

The Coach will not be personally present for seminars but may choose to facilitate the road ride and the review of avoidance maneuvers in-person if the seminar is local to them.

REGISTRATION COST

The cost of registration will remain the same for all remaining 2020 seminars.

Georgia Bikes locked in the lower rate for our LCI Seminar ($350) and are offering scholarships of 33% off ($235 cost to participant), 50% off ($175 cost to participant), and 75% off ($87 cost to participant). Full scholarships are possible as well. We are also going to cover 50% ($20) of the individual $40 LAB membership for those who need assistance. Please contact info@georgiabikes.org for scholarship information.

CANDIDATE MATERIALS

All seminar materials will be provided digitally to LCI candidates through a google drive folder.
