Roswell Moves! An Open Streets Event
April 30, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT
FreeBike Roswell! and the City of Roswell will bring “open streets” back in 2023 on Sunday, April 30th with Roswell Moves!
A five-block section of Canton Street in historic downtown Roswell, from the south end of Canton Street to Webb Street, Elizabeth Way, Norcross Street, the New East Alley, Plum Street and North Canton Street. Activities will take place from 11 a. m. to 3 p.m., while roads will close to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bring your wheels and feet to this FREE innovative experience! Roswell Moves encourages people to explore the community by walking, pedaling, rolling, and even playing. While some vendors will be permitted in this area, attendees are encouraged to experience and savor the offerings provided by local merchants in this corridor.
Using a formula that has been in practice since the 1970s in major cities across the globe, Roswell Moves! aims to promote:
active lifestyles
alternate modes of transportation
positive environmental impacts
positive economic impacts
“Open streets programs stress the word ‘open’. Communities can turn a street into a temporary park, using this car-free space for people of all ages and abilities to flow freely in an urban area. We want to encourage people to visit and wander in historic Roswell with a new perspective,” said Lise Walker, President of the Board of Directors for Bike Roswell!, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization promoting safe cycling.
The Bike Roswell! Mayor’s Ride, will continue as part of the new Roswell Moves! festivities again in 2023. This full-supported, recreational bike ride will offer distances of 18, 42 and 64 miles, all routes beginning at 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided for all Mayor’s Ride participants. The Mayor’s Ride is the largest fundraiser of the year for Bike Roswell!.
