Over 130 bicycle advocates, elected officials, planners, and students attended the 2nd annual Georgia Bike Summit in Athens, GA on October 8th. The conference, held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education on the campus of the University of Georgia, featured a diverse line-up of informative breakout sessions, covering topics from “Low Cost Bicycle Improvements” to Safe Routes to School, mountain bike trail building, and more. Tim Blumenthal, President of the national advocacy organization Bikes Belong, addressed an attentive lunchtime crowd, explaining how and why bicycling conditions need to improve in the US.
The Summit was book-ended by a number of social events, including the Friday night Clips of Faith Beer & Film Tour, presented by New Belgium Brewing and Sunday bicycle rides around Athens, a newly recognized “Bicycle Friendly Community.”
